Wheelchair to Founder: At 70, Jonine Scott Turns a Personal Health Crisis Into Luna Select Market
S For Story/10703160
LOS ANGELES - s4story -- Jonine Scott, founder of the online home and lifestyle store Luna Select Market, is sharing the personal story behind the business for the first time: a period of severe nerve damage and wheelchair use, caused by prolonged low potassium, that left her unable to complete the simplest everyday tasks around her own home.
During her recovery, Scott discovered a problem that had nothing to do with medicine and everything to do with daily life — she needed ordinary, well-made products to help her manage her home, and she couldn't find them gathered anywhere in one place. Rather than continue piecing together solutions from scattered retailers, she decided to build the resource herself.
That decision became Luna Select Market, a curated online shop offering home and lifestyle products selected with exactly that need in mind: quality, convenience, and everyday ease.
"I needed help around my home, and I couldn't find what I needed in one place," said Scott. "So I decided to create it."
Today, at 70 years old, Scott is walking again — by her own description, "not as gracefully as I used to." She credits the experience with reshaping not just her daily life, but her sense of what she wanted to build next.

"There's a difference between a hard day inside a life you're rebuilding on purpose, and a hard day inside a life that's just happening to you," Scott said. "I know both now. I'll take the first one."
Luna Select Market has since grown into a full online storefront, offering a curated selection of home goods and lifestyle products for customers looking for the same thing Scott once searched for herself: quality essentials, made easy to find.
Scott has also begun writing publicly about her recovery and the founding of the business, with a personal essay, "The Wheelchair Taught Me What My Home Was Missing," now available on Medium.
