Acuvance Names Sonia Choi to Lead Revenue Integrity Practice
S For Story/10702827
Healthcare industry veteran brings more than 25 years of experience as Acuvance strengthens its focus on evolving revenue integrity needs
ATLANTA - s4story -- Acuvance, a national healthcare advisory platform helping hospitals, health systems and physician organizations address complex performance, growth and transformation priorities, today announced the appointment of Sonia Choi as Senior Vice President, Revenue Integrity within Acuvance Coker, part of the broader Acuvance healthcare advisory platform. Under Choi's leadership, Acuvance will build on its existing expertise across coding, clinical documentation integrity, auditing, HIM, denials and broader revenue cycle performance to help clients connect traditionally fragmented middle revenue cycle capabilities into a more integrated approach.
Choi brings more than 25 years of healthcare industry and consulting experience, with deep expertise in revenue cycle transformation for large hospitals, health systems and academic medical centers. Most recently, she served as Vice President of Revenue Cycle Transformation and Vice President of Extended Revenue Cycle Management at athenahealth. Previously, she spent 24 years at Deloitte Consulting as a Managing Director, leading complex revenue cycle transformation engagements for healthcare organizations nationwide.
Her appointment comes as hospitals and health systems face continued pressure to protect revenue and improve financial performance amid growing reimbursement complexity. The American Hospital Association estimates that hospitals spent $43 billion in 2025 trying to collect payments insurers owed for care already delivered, including nearly $18 billion associated with overturning claims denials.

"Health systems are under significant pressure to improve financial performance, but many of the issues affecting reimbursement cross traditional departmental boundaries," said Josh Nazarian, Chief Executive Officer of Acuvance. "Documentation, coding, charge capture, utilization management, denials and reimbursement are interconnected. Sonia's experience leading complex revenue cycle transformation initiatives, with a specialized focus on the often overlooked middle revenue cycle, combined with the deep subject matter expertise already across Acuvance, strengthens our ability to help clients address these challenges in a more integrated way."
Acuvance's Revenue Integrity practice brings together expertise across medical coding and claims review, clinical documentation integrity, coding and compliance auditing, chargemaster and charge capture optimization, health information management operations, utilization management, denials management and broader revenue cycle transformation across a spectrum of healthcare settings, primarily for large hospitals and health systems. Acuvance's integrated approach across these capabilities enables hospitals and health systems identify revenue leakage, enhance compliance, optimize reimbursement, and drive enterprise-wide revenue cycle transformation.
"Revenue integrity is increasingly a strategic and operating model issue, not simply a coding or billing issue," said Choi. "The strongest organizations understand how documentation, coding, utilization, charges and reimbursement affect one another and create clear accountability across those functions. Acuvance has significant expertise across these areas, and I'm excited to bring those capabilities together to help clients identify gaps, improve coordination and strengthen both financial and operational performance."

The appointment also comes as technology is changing how many revenue cycle functions are performed. As automation and artificial intelligence take on more routine work, healthcare organizations are evaluating where technology can improve efficiency and where experienced judgment and oversight remain essential, particularly in complex and higher-risk areas.
"Technology is changing how this work gets done, but it does not eliminate the need for expertise or accountability," Choi said. "The opportunity is to build a model that uses technology and people appropriately while maintaining accuracy, compliance and financial discipline."
Choi began her healthcare career in medical records and reimbursement roles at the VA Medical Center in Pittsburgh and West Penn Allegheny Health System. She holds a Master of Science in Health Information Systems from the University of Pittsburgh and a Bachelor of Arts from The College of Wooster.
