American Dyslexia Association Offers 31 Days of Free Dyslexia Help for Dyslexia Awareness Month

S For Story/10705290
A free 31-day plan gives families one ten-minute activity for every day of October, in the order of the AFS-Method, with a short video for each day on the nonprofit's social channels. Starting late is fine: begin with today's date or with Day 1.

SARASOTA, Fla. - s4story -- Dyslexia Awareness Month is here, and the American Dyslexia Association (ADA) is marking October with something to do rather than another list of facts: a free 31-day plan with one activity for every day of the month. Each activity takes about ten minutes, runs in any browser or on paper, and needs no account, no purchase, and no special training.

The plan follows the AFS-Method, which trains attention first, then the sensory perceptions of seeing, hearing, and spatial orientation, and only then reading, writing, and math. Week 1 trains attention and looking closely, week 2 remembering what you see, week 3 listening carefully, week 4 space, body, and the first word. The last three days bring reading and numbers together and end the month with praise. Sundays are family days: parents read aloud or play together, so every child gets one calm day a week.

Most activities come from the Easy Training Program, a free collection of brain-training games sorted by sensory area, and from the association's library of more than 1,500 printable worksheets and its Ears Open! audio training. A short video for every day on the association's Facebook and Instagram channels shows exactly what to do.

As many as 1 in 5 people have dyslexia, according to the U.S. Senate resolution that designated October 2025 as National Dyslexia Awareness Month, and the gap between typical and dyslexic readers appears as early as first grade. "Most children with dyslexia do not need more of the same spelling drill," the association writes. "They need their perception trained first, so that the letters and numbers they practice later can actually stick."

Three rules make the plan work: the same time every day, ten minutes and then stop, and praise for the effort rather than the score. Families who start in the middle of the month simply begin with today's date or with Day 1 and carry the plan into November. The plan is not a test, but parents are encouraged to notice which weeks are a struggle: that pattern is useful for a closer look with a Certified Dyslexia Trainer.
