Louisiana Author Launches Kickstarter for Children's Book on Muslim Heroes
BATON ROUGE, La. - s4story -- My Hero is Muslim: A Children's Book of Heroes, written by American-Muslim author Ahmed Siddiqui, officially launched their crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter to raise $5,000 to fund printing costs.
This hardcover book attempts to break down misrepresentations and stereotypes of Muslims commonly depicted in film, television, politics, and general discourse. Muslim and non-Muslim children, of all backgrounds, will explore the incredible real-life stories of 14 individuals who are actively changing what it means to be Muslim and how Muslim people are seen in society.
"Misrepresentation of Muslims in the media affects not only how the world sees us, but it takes a toll on Muslims themselves. We're not all doctors, engineers or terrorists," said Ahmed Siddiqui, author of the book, "rather, we're just people like everyone else."

The 36-page hardcover book, beautifully illustrated by Christina Brown, features stories of modern Muslim heroes like Shirin Ebadi, the first female Iranian Judge, Nadiya Hussain, winner of the Great British Bakeoff, and professional wrestler Adeel Alam. My Hero is Muslim does not focus on people's religious beliefs, rather celebrates their accomplishments. Children will be able to find inspiration within these modern-day heroes who are making a difference in the world by changing what it means to be Muslim.
My Hero is Muslim is currently raising $5000 to fund printing costs and is available for pre-order on Kickstarter for the early bird price of $25.
