Author Katrina Shawver to Speak at the Allentown Public Library September 24
S For Story/10386962
ALLENTOWN, Pa. - s4story -- Katrina Shawver, author of HENRY: A Polish Swimmer's True Story of Friendship from Auschwitz to America will present an Author Talk and Book Signing. The event will take place on September 24, 2019 at 6:00 pm at the Allentown Public Library, 1210 Hamilton St., Allentown, PA 18102. Books will be available for purchase and book signing. The event is free and open to the public.
Shawver will share stories of writing her book. The talk will include behind-the-scenes photos and documents not included in the book and touch on Polish history 1939-1945. This true story is both a witness to the Holocaust through Polish eyes and the story of how a Polish (Catholic) competitive swimmer survived Auschwitz and Buchenwald by his wits, humor, luck, and friends. The book fills a huge gap in historical accounts of Poles during WWII.
The book has garnered high praise and many awards including First Place for Published Nonfiction in the 2018 Arizona Authors Association Literary Contest. It is listed as recommended reading on Poland by the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in Los Angeles. (https://losangeles.msz.gov.pl/en/news/books/) She spent many years researching Poland, World War II, and the Holocaust.
