~ Boston Mayor Michelle Wu has announced the launch of a new program aimed at supporting the city's nightlife economy. The Office of Nightlife Economy Late Night Food Truck Program will provide food trucks with the opportunity to operate in designated public sites during late night hours.

The program will offer seven locations near hospitals, universities, music venues, and nightlife districts, providing workers, residents, and patrons with more options for late night food. This initiative is part of Mayor Wu's efforts to make Boston a welcoming and inclusive city for all and to support small businesses across different neighborhoods.

Mayor Wu expressed her excitement about creating opportunities for food businesses and making the city vibrant and fun. She also encouraged interested food truck operators to register for the lottery for a chance to operate at one of the designated locations this summer and fall.

Similar to the City of Boston Food Truck Program, operators will participate in an online lottery to select their sites. The lottery will take place on Friday, June 6 at 4:00 p.m., and interested operators must sign up using an online form by Wednesday, June 4. They must also provide all necessary documents required by the City of Boston to vend.

Corean Reynolds, Director of Nightlife Economy for the City of Boston, emphasized that this program is not just about providing meals but also about creating new opportunities for entrepreneurs and increasing access to late night food. She stated that this initiative was a direct response to conversations with residents, workers, and businesses who expressed a need for more food options after hours.

District 8 City Councilor Sharon Durkan also expressed her excitement about the launch of this program. She believes that having more food options available at night makes sense in areas like hers where hospitals, music venues, and college students are always active. She sees this as a win for small businesses as well as those getting off late shifts or studying late at night.

The Office of Nightlife Economy will announce the list of locations and food truck operators after the lottery in June. The Late Night Food Truck season will run throughout the summer and end in the fall. This program is an initiative of the Office of Nightlife Economy, which serves as a vital link between City Hall and stakeholders within Boston's nightlife ecosystem.

Josh Bhatti, Senior Vice President for The Bowery Presents, which operates Roadrunner, believes that being able to serve food later into the evening is crucial for making the city more vibrant and lively. He also sees this as an opportunity to provide food for concertgoers and staff while creating business opportunities for others.

Jen Faigel, Co-Founder and Executive Director of CommonWealth Kitchen, also expressed her support for this program. She believes that it will be a huge boost for hard-working food truck businesses who are still struggling to recover from the impact of COVID-19. She also sees it as a benefit for the people they serve.

Since 2023, the Office of Nightlife Economy has engaged with several hundred stakeholders, leading to various initiatives such as the creation of the NITE Committee and implementation of a social district pilot on Temple Place. They have also distributed drink spiking prevention covers and provided over $300,000 in grants to local businesses through Wake Up the Night Grants. Recently, they launched NITE U, a one-stop location providing resources and support for nightlife employees and business owners.

The Late Night Food Truck Program is another step towards making Boston's nightlife more vibrant and inclusive while supporting small businesses in different neighborhoods. With its launch this summer, residents can look forward to more late night food options in their city.
