Edison College Canada begins its next Community Support Worker certificate intake on September 8, 2026. The 25 week, 600 hour program is delivered fully online and is approved by British Columbia's PTIRU.
VANCOUVER, British Columbia - s4story -- VICTORIA, British Columbia - Edison College Canada begins its next intake of the Community Support Worker: Addictions and Mental Health Specialization certificate on Tuesday, September 8, 2026.
The certificate runs 25 weeks and 600 instructional hours, delivered 100 percent online so students across British Columbia and elsewhere in Canada can complete it without relocating to Victoria. Morning and evening or weekend schedules are offered.
The curriculum comprises eleven core courses and a capstone: Introduction to Ethics, Introduction to Addictions, Pharmacology Essentials, Essentials of Mental Health, Aboriginal Canadian Studies, Interviewing Skills, Assessment Essentials, Introduction to Case Management, Relapse Prevention, Burnout and Self-care, Trainings and Certifications, and Career and Employment Strategies as the capstone. The certifications course includes FoodSafe Level 1, Standard First Aid with CPR Level C, and suicide prevention training, whose scope, expiry, and recognition are set by the issuing bodies and vary by jurisdiction and employer.

Applicants need a high school diploma or equivalent, or may apply as mature students aged 19 or older. Domestic applicants need Grade 10 English or equivalent; international applicants need IELTS 5.5, CLB 5, or Duolingo 95. A criminal record check under British Columbia's Criminal Records Review Act and a signed Student Declaration are required. Meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee admission.
WorkBC projects 16,250 job openings in British Columbia between 2025 and 2035 for social and community service workers, National Occupational Classification 42201, and reports a provincial average annual income of $57,000 within a range of roughly $40,000 to $75,000 per year, or $19.00 to $36.06 per hour. Hiring decisions rest with individual employers. Completion of this program does not guarantee employment, placement, a specific wage, or licensure in any occupation.
