Fascinating Uptown Destination Celebrates New Home and Permanent Exhibit

S For Story/10467334
Continuum Center explores consciousness and human capacity; led by executive director Jane Barrash.

MINNEAPOLIS - s4story -- The new Center is a books, gifts and art store, a training center, a two-level event center (as restrictions allow), a public forum for speakers, debates, films and music nights, as well as home to the new Continuum Exhibit - on consciousness, human capacity and the interconnectedness of life.

In 1978, the original 60 panel Continuum Exhibit broke attendance records at the California Museum of Science and Industry in LA (over 2M visits in less than a year). The UN and Smithsonian wanted it but a MN philanthropist, Hugh Harrison, bought rights, built a $250, 000 version and brought it to Minneapolis where a years-long tour included high profile locations like the top floor of the IDS, and proponents included Earl Bakken, founder of Medtronic, who featured the Continuum Exhibit on the front page of the Medtronic Pulse, encouraging everyone to see this "outstanding exhibit."

Now in a spacious beautiful building, on the corner of 28th and Hennepin in Minneapolis and staffed by current and former students, the first 34 panels of 40 years later exhibit is on display (free and open to the public) with decades more research and new modules on the brain, animal intelligence, mental health, and more. Barrash has been with Continuum Center since the 1984 launch of the Whole Mind Learning Project and has since developed many programs including Discovery of Self (DoS), which has quietly been brought to populations ranging from Fortune 100 executives and medical professionals to maximum security inmates and homeless adults. DoS helped turn around the Mpls North High Polars starting in their 2013/14 season when they were in last place in the city, and the school had a 35% grad rate. True North: Science, Streets and Skating Rinks of Optimism (9 min trailer).
