From Twickenham to Taittinger: A little Smart car takes on a big charity adventure
S For Story/10707212
DOVER, Del. - s4story -- A 25-year-old Smart ForTwo has proved that you don't need an Aston Martin to have a Bond-worthy adventure.
A group of friends recently took part in the Twickenham to Taittinger charity road trip, setting off from Twickenham and travelling via Dover, Dunkirk and Reims into the Champagne region of France. The adventure included a visit to Taittinger, a stop at Disneyland Paris for Halloween, and a return journey across the Channel.
The unlikely rally car was a silver, 25-year-old Smart ForTwo. Small enough to make parking easy, but perhaps not quite designed for a European road trip involving Champagne, the car became an entertaining part of the story.
The trip was undertaken in support of Sands, which works to support families affected by pregnancy and baby loss. The fundraising campaign can be found at:

Jonathan Pullinger, of Costwolds LLC, said:
"I now know exactly how many magnums of Champagne fit in the boot of a 25-year-old Smart, and what that does to its performance. Let's just say it was noticeably slower on the way back!"

Alongside his work at Costwolds LLC, Pullinger is also behind Warburton AI, an AI project exploring practical ways to use artificial intelligence to support people and communities online. The rally offered a chance to step away from the world of technology and take on a rather more traditional challenge: a road trip, a tiny car and a boot full of Champagne.
The trip combined the spirit of a classic European road adventure with a cause that matters deeply to families affected by pregnancy and baby loss. Along the way, the group crossed the Channel, explored the Champagne region and made memories that were rather less predictable than the original itinerary.
The rally's small-car approach also offered a playful alternative to the traditional motoring adventure. Instead of high-powered sports cars, the group relied on their determination, good humour and a very compact boot.
About the fundraiser
The Twickenham to Taittinger road trip is raising money for Sands, the charity supporting anyone affected by the death of a baby. Donations can be made through the campaign page:
