A Gift of Books: Local Business Helps Launch Homeless Library in Lancaster
S For Story/10685882
LANCASTER, Calif. - s4story -- Something wonderful happened when a small business owner donated over 200 books to help start a homeless library in Lancaster, CA a project designed to bring hope and enrichment to those in need. The local business owner Cynthia Mechsner wanted to help the local community leaders when she learned that they were looking for donations to bring the idea to life.
The donation was made to Heather Varden, Deputy Mayor of Services Coordination & Community Empowerment, who envisioned a welcoming library space for individuals experiencing homelessness. Her goal was to create a place where anyone could pick up a book for comfort, knowledge, or simple enjoyment. Mrs. Mechsner who owns Secondhand Stories on Esty was more than happy to help get the project stared stating "When I heard they were hoping to start a library for the homeless, I thought about how meaningful it could be for them and how it could provide a simple comfort to those who are facing incredibly difficult circumstances." Thanks to the wide selection at her shop, Cynthia had many books available where she hoped that by donating them it could move the project much closer to becoming a reality.
