Governor Abbott Announces More Than $8.5 Million In Grants To 35 Central Texas Veteran Service Organizations
S For Story/10673925
~ Governor Greg Abbott announced today that the Fund for Veterans' Assistance (FVA) has awarded over $8.5 million in grants to 35 organizations in Central Texas. These grants were presented as part of the Texas Veterans Commission's Grants Across Texas presentations and will provide services to more than 4,440 veterans and their families across 30 counties.
According to Governor Abbott, these grants are a way to honor and support the brave men and women who have served our state and nation. "Our veterans represent the strength and resilience of our great state," he said. "By strengthening these 35 Central Texas organizations, we are creating opportunities that will carry our veterans and their families forward for generations."
The grants were presented by TVC Commissioner Mary Dale at the Heroes Resource Center in Cedar Park. Commissioner Dale emphasized the importance of timely support for veterans and their families in Central Texas. "By investing in local partners and organizations, these FVA grants bring strength and stability directly to veterans and their families – turning community care into life-changing impact," she said.
The FVA grant recipients include a variety of organizations providing services such as housing assistance, financial aid, peer support, counseling, and more. Some notable recipients include Austin Area Urban League, Austin Dog Alliance, Austin Habitat for Humanity, Boys & Girls Club of Central Texas Inc., Easter Seals Central Texas Inc., Goodwill Industries of Central Texas, Meals on Wheels and More Inc., Samaritan Center for Counseling and Pastoral Care Inc., The Salvation Army – Waco, USA Cares Inc., and Williamson County.

In May of this year, Governor Abbott announced a record-breaking $46.3 million in grants to over 200 organizations across Texas. This is projected to provide direct services to nearly 40,000 veterans, their dependents, and surviving spouses.
Since 2009, more than $359 million in grant funding has been awarded through over 1,600 FVA grants. These grants support a wide range of services including emergency financial assistance, transportation, legal services, family support services, and more. The TVC awards grants in five categories: General Assistance, Housing for Texas Heroes, Veterans Mental Health Grants, Veterans Treatment Courts, and Veteran County Service Officers.
Funding for these grants is primarily generated by the Texas Lottery's games designated for veteran support. Additionally, people can donate when registering their vehicles or when getting a hunting or fishing license.
For veterans in need of assistance, the TVC website provides a list of organizations offering help in their area and how to contact them. This information can be found at https://tvc.texas.gov/fund.
