JESA celebrates its World Premiere at the 47th Annual Asian American International Film Festival
S For Story/10632877
SOLD OUT August 2nd Screening at Regal Union Square – 6:00PM
NEW YORK - s4story -- JESA will celebrate its World Premiere at the 47th Annual Asian American International Film Festival at a SOLD OUT screening on Friday, August 2nd. Sponsored by Asian CineVision in association with Rollin Studios, this short narrative starring Esther Moon (Minari, "Partner Track"), SungChul Choi (20s.30s., Revival), and introducing Romo Lee highlights the Korean family ancestral rite and the often-overlooked female sacrifice that accompanies this traditional ceremony.
Seeking to understand the complexities of the event as a child, writer/director, Jee Hoon Seo, poetically processes his loss of innocence, traditional hierarchies, and unyielding love for family through his brilliant writing and direction of a cast that embodies each moment with depth and passion.
More on S For Story
What began as an intimate and personal rendering, the joy and displacement he experienced during his childhood in America, away from much of his family in Korea, Seo manages to make a profound statement about female sacrifice and the blaring patriarchy that can manifest in long-standing Korean traditions. Seo hopes to be an advocate for marginalized voices and encourage progressive development in family traditions while holding onto one's legacy and culture.
The Layer Project says the film is "delivering a poignant narrative that transcends cultural boundaries."
Director/Writer, Jee Hoon Seo, and cast members, Romo Lee, Hee Sunwoo, Tadashi Mitsui, and Youlim Nam will attend the sold out screening on August 2nd at 6:00pm at Regal Union Square – Auditorium 14. JESA will premiere alongside five other short films as a part of Shorts Program: Coloring Out of the Lines.
