Kent Youth And Family Services Names Omar Malik As New Executive Director

Omar Malik will lead Kent Youth and Family Services (KYFS) through continued growth as its new executive director beginning in September.

KENT, Wash. - s4story -- Malik brings more than 15 years of nonprofit leadership experience focused on youth development, educational access, and leadership opportunities for youth and their families. He most recently served as Director of Camping for Camp Fire Central Puget Sound and previously held leadership roles with the Boys & Girls Club of San Francisco.

Between 2011 and 2014, he lived in Saudi Arabia, where he taught 8th-grade history at the British International School of Jeddah while also coaching youth basketball. On this experience, Omar explained, "It was my first experience working closely with young people, and it was there that I discovered my passion for youth development. That experience ultimately set me on the career path I'm still pursuing today."

Malik will lead KYFS as the organization continues to build on its growth and strengthen relationships with youth, families, community partners and other stakeholders throughout South King County. His work with historically underserved communities reflects a commitment to reducing barriers and creating supportive environments where all young people can thrive.

"Omar brings extensive experience leading youth-serving programs, developing strong teams and building relationships with the communities he serves," said Brian Smith, KYFS Board president. "His commitment to equity, collaborative leadership, and youth development aligns strongly with KYFS and our vision for the future. We look forward to his leadership as we expand behavioral health services and work with Kent School District to increase access to high-quality preschool education. Omar's experience building partnerships and creating opportunities for underserved youth will help KYFS deepen its impact across South King County."

Malik said he was drawn to KYFS because of its holistic approach to supporting youth and families through behavioral health, education, family support, and community-based services.

"I'm honored to join Kent Youth and Family Services and to have the opportunity to work alongside its staff, board, and community partners," Malik said. "I believe the strongest programs are built by listening to the people they are designed to serve, and it's clear KYFS has upheld these values for decades. I look forward to maintaining and building relationships throughout the community, listening and learning from youth and families, and working with our staff and partners to build on KYFS's strong foundation to increase impact."

Malik holds a bachelor's degree with honors in Politics and International Relations from Kingston University in London. He will begin his new role on September 10, 2026.
