Lantern Walks illuminate pedestrian safety in eight Springfield neighborhoods on Oct. 4

S For Story/10673823
~ As the sun sets on Saturday, October 4th, neighborhoods across Springfield will be illuminated with lanterns for the annual Lantern Walks. This event, organized by the City's SGF Yields pedestrian safety program, aims to promote pedestrian-friendly habits and raise awareness about crosswalk safety during Pedestrian Safety Month.

Residents of Rountree, Oak Grove, Brentwood, West Central, University Heights, Galloway Village, Woodland Heights and Tom Watkins are all invited to participate in this community event. The Lantern Walks invite neighbors, schools and families to build and decorate lanterns ahead of time and then join in an illuminated stroll along a designated route.

Along the way, participants will have the opportunity to stop at stations where children can learn about safe walking practices, drivers can review crosswalk laws and parents can practice safe crossings with their children. Additionally, residents along the routes are encouraged to join in by placing lights and decorations outside their homes to help brighten the walk.

To learn more about this event and how you can get involved, visit springfieldmo.gov/lanternwalk. Let's come together as a community to promote pedestrian safety and create a safer environment for all.
