The manuscript collection is titled The Earl Ofari Hutchinson Manuscript Collection. Hutchinson's books cover the gamut of topical social, political, and historical issues that have been touchstone of study, debate, and controversy in America over the past half century.

"I wanted to ensure that scholars, researchers, and the interested public have access to my manuscripts and writings that challenge on the always contentious issues of race and politics in America." Hutchinson said it was important that given the subject matter his writings probe that it was fitting that the manuscripts be at a public college or university that serves a multi-ethic mix of students of color.
