Naples Airport wins statewide Recycling Champion Award

Florida foundation highlights airport's transformative fuel initiative and fleet electrification
NAPLES, Fla. - s4story -- The Naples Airport Authority (NAA) and its Fixed-Base Operator, Naples Aviation, were honored as a Recycling Champion by the Florida Recycling Partnership Foundation, a coalition of businesses and associations dedicated to improving Florida's recycling rates while implementing initiatives to reduce waste and expand sustainability programs.
The Foundation's annual Recycling Champions Awards recognizes companies, organizations, governmental entities and individuals that have made a significant impact on advancing recycling and sustainability across the state. Honorees include those demonstrating innovation and leadership in recycling, as well as areas such as water reuse, energy efficiency, sustainability, infrastructure and environmental stewardship.
In announcing the Recycling Champions Awards, the Foundation singled out two sustainability programs at Naples Airport.
More on S For Story
The first program is a Transformative Fuel Initiative to promote widespread adoption of cleaner, efficient aviation practices. Naples Airport offers Unleaded Aviation Gasoline (UL 94), a clean-burning alternative to Aviation Gasoline (AvGas), and Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF), a low-carbon, alternative fuel from non-petroleum sources. Naples Aviation was the first FBO on the East Coast to regularly offer SAF. It also provided a $250 credit to tenants that obtained a Supplement Type Certificate to use UL 94. Today, more than 20% of fuel sales are alternative fuels.
The Foundation also commended Naples Airport's Fleet Electrification Initiative. The airport began transitioning its ground fleet from gas and diesel to electric vehicles, an initiative that helps eliminate fossil fuel use while reducing noise and carbon output. Naples Airport purchased Lektro aircraft tugs and electric Ground Power Units (GPUs) for ramps, as well as electric golf carts and electric vehicles for maintenance and operations teams.

Combined, the airport's efforts are reducing greenhouse gas emissions, improving air quality and enhancing the resiliency of airport operations while setting a standard for sustainable aviation practices statewide.
The Recycling Champion Award comes just months after the Florida Airports Council honored Naples Airport with the 2025 Benjamin J. Siwinski Sustainability Award to recognize the airport's ongoing commitment to the environment.
Additional 2025 Recycling Champion Award winners include The Florida Bar, Novolex, Orange County Public Schools and the St. Lucie County Solid Waste Division.
Naples Airport is the second Collier County organization honored by the Florida Recycling Partnership Foundation in as many years. In 2024, the Foundation recognized Collier County Solid Waste as a Recycling Champion for its "Preserve Our Paradise: Reduce, Reuse & Recycle" campaign.
