CHARLOTTE, N.C. - s4story -- CASES FROM SUITE 704 BRINGS A DIFFERENT KIND OF PRIVATE INVESTIGATOR TO POSTWAR AMERICA

James Weikle introduces readers to a private investigator who relies on judgment as much as toughness in Cases from Suite 704: A Sigmund Carter Novel. Sigmund "Ziggy" Carter has left behind his life as a military colonel for a scarred desk and frosted glass door in the Johnston Building. The war taught him how to survive difficult circumstances. Now, working as a private investigator in a changing postwar city, Carter is discovering that solving a case often requires understanding people as much as uncovering the truth.

Three investigations drive Cases from Suite 704: A Sigmund Carter Novel, each testing Carter in a different way. The disappearance of a wife carrying fifteen thousand dollars takes him into the frozen Blue Ridge and puts him in the path of a bootlegger. Missing Christmas Eve money at a department store reveals a story more complicated than simple theft. A mechanic living under a stolen name presents another challenge, requiring Carter to create a false identity himself to expose the truth behind someone else's deception.

Weikle's inspiration came while listening to a 1940s radio drama and imagining how he could approach that style of storytelling from his own direction. The setting gave him an opportunity to incorporate places he knows while recreating the atmosphere of an earlier America. Ziggy Carter, however, was not created overnight. Weikle first developed the character approximately 20 years ago and continued refining him as his own experiences and perspective changed, eventually shaping Carter into the measured, well rounded investigator who appears in the novel.

Rather than building Carter as an unstoppable action hero, Weikle gives him a quieter form of authority. He can defend himself when circumstances demand it, but force is not his first solution. His strength comes from reading situations, understanding motivations and persuading people to recognize what may be best under difficult circumstances. That approach makes Cases from Suite 704: A Sigmund Carter Novel especially suited to readers who enjoy traditional mysteries, nostalgic settings and detective stories in which character and moral judgment matter as much as confrontation.

James Weikle offers a postwar mystery shaped by the idea that justice cannot always be measured by arrests or convictions. Across three cases, Carter encounters people running from consequences, concealing uncomfortable truths or simply trying to find a way forward. His investigations reveal a world where right and wrong can become complicated once human circumstances enter the picture. For Ziggy Carter, the real challenge is determining not only who is responsible, but what justice should actually look like when the case is over.
