Promise Keeping finds neither party has a meaningful edge in keeping its word

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - s4story -- MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — Promise Keeping LLC has launched promisekeeping.com, a free public scorecard that tracks what politicians promised against what they delivered. The site covers every president since Jimmy Carter, the leaders of both parties in Congress, and every sitting governor.

Each card quotes a promise in the official's own words, records the outcome, and links both to a primary source such as a platform, a bill or a roll-call vote. The site keeps an archived copy of each source wherever the original page allows it.

Across 66 politicians, Republicans have kept or mostly kept 74% of the promises that have a final outcome, and Democrats 70%. The site's own analysis says that gap is too small to show either party keeps more promises.

The site applies the same rules to every official:
  • Nobody picks the promises. They are taken from the official's own platform or address, in the order listed.
  • Each promise is scored on exactly what it says. Effort does not count as delivery.
  • Only final outcomes count in the totals. Promises still in progress are tracked but left out.
  • Anyone can submit a record. Accepted updates are posted with their dates.
Tennessee Governor Bill Lee's scorecard shows 18 promises with a final outcome, all kept or mostly kept, and two in progress.

"I spent a year building https://Peacelovedishes.com, a family site with more than 75 modules," said Derek Gendron, founder of Promise Keeping. "One of them is a political module that asks people a series of questions and shows them where they stand on the political spectrum and what they believe. That gave me an idea. What if there was a site that kept track of political promises against political promises kept? So I built it."
