Popularity of Hammond Castle Related Books Surges, the Publisher Just Can't Keep the Titles in Print

GLOUCESTER, Mass. - s4story -- This has proven to be a banner year for the Quincannon Publishing Group when it comes to the subject of millionaire inventor John Hays Hammond, Jr., whose castle residence is now a museum in Gloucester. Massachusetts.

In February, on the fifty-fifth anniversary of the Hammond's death, Quincannon debuted the second volume of his biography, Living in the Past, Looking to the Future by John Dandola. A Gloucester Daily Times article on that bio led to a resurgence in interest about the company's other Hammond-related titles, all of which are available on the internet exclusively through their web site. That interest brought about an article in the summer edition of Cape Ann magazine spotlighting Recipes from Hammond Castle by Hammond's late cook, Nellie Nally Connors.

Sales of The Ghosts of Hammond Castle always peak in October and even though the castle itself will not be holding its annual "haunting" this year, stock of that title has been lowered to the point that another edition has been readied for printing. Dead by All Appearances, one of two mystery novels featuring Hammond himself as a character during World War II, has already had to be reprinted. The Wind series of cozy mysteries featuring Hammond Castle as a museum in the present is also readying for more printings.

"These are the only books written about Hammond and his castle," said Holly Benedict, an editor at Quincannon. "We always keep the Hammond Castle titles in stock but the interest this time out depleted much of that stock. It's reassuring that our keeping Hammond's memory alive is a worthwhile thing."
