With over 25 years of experience, Heather Peterson strengthens coordination, access, and outcomes for hand and upper-extremity patients

PORTLAND, Ore. - s4story -- ROC is pleased to announce the addition of Heather Peterson, CHT, OTR/L, a certified hand and occupational therapist specializing in upper-extremity rehabilitation, to its expanding orthopedic care team. With over 25 years of experience, Peterson brings advanced training in the treatment of complex post-operative and traumatic hand and upper-extremity conditions, further strengthening ROC's ability to provide world-class, coordinated, patient-centered care across the full recovery journey.

Peterson provides individualized, evidence-based treatment designed to help patients restore function and return to the activities that matter most. Known for her collaborative and compassionate approach, Peterson fosters a supportive, goal-oriented environment for patients of all ages, while also serving as a key point of continuity between surgical care and rehabilitation.

"Joining ROC represents an opportunity to meaningfully expand access to specialized hand and upper-extremity care," said Peterson. "Many patients face long wait times or limited options for this level of rehabilitation. Being part of a team that is intentionally investing in both innovation and the patient experience allows us to meet patients sooner, guide them through recovery more thoughtfully, and help them return to the activities they love."

"Adding a certified hand therapist to our practice fills a critical gap in our ability to care for patients across the full continuum of treatment," said Dr. Samuel Cheesman, orthopedic hand surgeon at ROC. "This addition expands capacity, improves coordination between surgical and rehabilitative care, and ultimately allows more patients to be seen sooner with a higher level of specialization."

Born and raised in the Willamette Valley, Peterson earned her undergraduate degree in Psychology from Western Oregon University before completing her Master of Occupational Therapy at Samuel Merritt University. She then completed her certification in Hand Therapy while working at the Dr. Van Allen Hand Surgery Clinic in Tualatin. Outside of her practice, Peterson loves being on the water, volunteering, and spending time with her friends, family, and dogs.
