Roch Dog Tests Fairmont's Dog Friendly Promise at All 94 of Its Hotels
S For Story/10706412
Fairmont and the Four Legged Guest assesses every Fairmont against the Roch Dog Friendly Standard: 63 take dogs and run from A+ to F, 20 turn them away, and only 23 meet the six minimum requirements.
PALO ALTO, Calif. - s4story -- Roch Dog, the standards and certification body for dog friendly hotels, has published Fairmont and the Four Legged Guest, an independent assessment of every hotel in the Fairmont Hotels & Resorts portfolio against the Roch Dog Friendly Standard.
Fairmont is the only luxury hotel brand that has made dogs part of its identity. It has kept resident Canine Ambassadors on the staff of its hotels since 2002, and in July 2025 it stated that "Fairmont is committed to ensuring all guests, including four legged, receive luxury and personalized service." Roch Dog tested that promise by writing to all 94 hotels on Fairmont's own list as a guest planning a stay with a dog, and scoring every answer against the same published standard.
Sixty three hotels take dogs and hold a published grade, from an A+ at the Fairmont Miramar in Santa Monica to thirteen F grades on four continents. Twenty refuse dogs outright, in writing, among them hotels in Dubai, Hamburg, Singapore and Cape Town. Only 23 of the 63 meet the standard's six minimum requirements. The fee for the same dog runs from nothing to US$250, and the weight limit from none at all to 11 lb. Hotels with a resident Canine Ambassador grade no better than the rest of the portfolio.

"Fairmont has done more for dogs than any luxury brand, and its best hotels prove it," said Guise Bule, founder and CEO of Roch Dog. "Banff Springs, Lake Louise, the Royal York, Sonoma and the Miramar are among the best dog hotels we have assessed anywhere. What the brand does not have is one page in its standards manual about the dog, so every hotel writes its own."
The paper names and links every hotel, shows where the brand keeps its promise and where it does not, and closes with what a Fairmont dog standard would say: the six minimum requirements as the floor, one policy format on every hotel page, a stated welcome at every hotel, a plain statement of which hotels take dogs, a fee with a reason, and an annual independent check. Roch Dog assesses and ranks more than 3,000 hotels in 56 countries against the Roch Dog Friendly Standard. The paper is free to read, with no form to fill in.
