South Spokane Burglary Suspect Quickly Taken Into Custody; Suspect Found Sitting in a Chair When Officers Arrived

~ Spokane, WA- On December 11, 2025, a residential burglary was reported in the 600 block of South Ralph Street. The Spokane Police Department responded to the call just before 8 a.m. after receiving a report from a female inside the home who heard noises and suspected someone had entered her residence.

According to Officer Daniel Strassenberg, PIO for the Spokane Police Department, the first officer arrived on scene within minutes of the call being dispatched. The homeowner had hidden in a closet out of fear for her safety and waited for law enforcement to arrive.

Upon further investigation, officers obtained additional information from a doorbell camera which showed a male suspect entering the residence. The front door of the home had been forced open.

After making announcements at the front door, officers entered the home and found the suspect sitting in a back room. The male was taken into custody without incident and escorted out of the home. It was discovered that he had poured himself a drink of whiskey while inside.

The female victim, who had been hiding during this ordeal, was then contacted by officers. The suspect was identified as 36-year-old Michael A. Luciano and was arrested for Residential Burglary and 3rd Degree Malicious Mischief. He was booked into Spokane County Jail and is also being held on a detainer issued by the Department of Corrections.

Images related to the incident were released by authorities, showing damage to the front door and a chair with an open bottle of whiskey nearby. This serves as a reminder for homeowners to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to protect their homes from potential burglaries.
