THE ROADS OF WAR: A Story of Resilience

John B. Cameron Discusses Surviving Battle in All Senses of the Word
NORFOLK, Va. - s4story -- Historian John Cameron expertly crafts a Civil War tale with his novel The Roads of War (TouchPoint Press, April 26, 2022). In 1862, Lewis McCormack returns to his regiment and finds himself entrenched in the dangers and destruction of battle while another war—one of poverty and hopelessness—wages on back home with his wife Eliza and their children.
Cameron leads us through the ravages of war with authentic battles and the rawness of what it's like to be witness to a multitude of chaos and death. In depicting Lewis' struggle to not only stay alive but to stay true to his humanity, Cameron reminds us that that the effects of war fail to cease when—and if—a soldier reaches home.
ABOUT THE BOOK
During the Civil War, Lewis McCormack has to return to his regiment's training camp, leaving his wife Eliza to tend to their homestead. Rearing children, surviving a declining economy, and paying the family debts leads to intolerable hurdles. Amid the chaos of war, Lewis just wants to stay alive—to make it back home.
