GAITHERSBURG, MARYLAND: Tone Commander —a Patton subsidiary famous for secure telephony solutions—has added Push-to-Talk (PTT) capabilities to its Assured Services SIP End Instrument, which carries both DoD JITC Unified Capabilities Certification and is TSG-6 approved for National Security Systems (CNSS).

Push to Talk. PTT devices improve clarity of communication. PTT enhances sound quality and improves perceptibility of spoken words by eliminating unnecessary background noise. PTT also prevents SCI background conversations from being inadvertently transmitted onto unrelated calls or conferences.

Secure. The National Telecommunications Security Working Group (NTSWG) has recently issued new CNSSI 5000 guidance for collaboration in secure spaces. The use of wired, push-to-talk handsets is recommended together with TSG approved endpoints. The advice to use PTT is repeated by the DoD's Memorandum on the use of Collaboration Peripherals in Secure Spaces.

Simple. The PTT capabilities of these phones are not complex. The user simply presses a button on the handset when talking. When the button is not pressed the microphone on the handset is physically disconnected from the call, while allowing the user to listen on the speaker.

Interoperable. Tone Commander's standards-based AS-SIP phones can be deployed on any JITC-approved platform and are interoperable (agnostic) with all brands of Softswitch, PBX and Local Session Controller products and services.

Certified. The TSG-6 standards help defense, intelligence and civilian agencies protect sensitive information. Special positive-disconnect circuitry and microphonic filtering technology ensure that no nearby audio vibrations coupling to the device or microphone emanate outside the SCIF on any wires. Tone Commander has both Class A and Class B TSG-6 certifications.
