Avery Burton Foundation Announces 6th Annual Hike 'N' Heal Community Mental Health Event
S For Story/10705397
Free Nov. 14 gathering will combine movement, connection and practical mental-health awareness at the Historic Railroad Trail
HENDERSON, Nev. - s4story -- The Avery Burton Foundation will host its 6th Annual Hike 'N' Heal on Saturday, Nov. 14, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Historic Railroad Trail near Lake Mead, bringing community members together for an outdoor experience focused on movement, connection and mental-health awareness.
The free event is designed to create an accessible space where participants can connect with one another while learning practical ways to support mental wellbeing in their families, workplaces and communities.
Participants will also be introduced to the Avery Burton Foundation's Recognize, Respond and Refer framework, which encourages people to recognize signs that someone may be struggling, respond with empathy and support, and refer them to appropriate resources when needed.
"Hike 'N' Heal is about reminding people that supporting mental health doesn't always begin in a clinical setting. Sometimes it begins with a conversation, a walk alongside someone or simply knowing how to recognize when a person may need support," said Ashley Dodson, board member of the Avery Burton Foundation. "We want people to leave feeling more connected, more confident and better prepared to be a Mental Health Champion for someone in their life."

The event will take place along the Historic Railroad Trail within Lake Mead National Recreation Area. Once part of a railroad system used to transport materials during construction of Hoover Dam, the trail now provides hikers and cyclists with scenic views of Lake Mead, Boulder Basin and several historic railroad tunnels.
Hike 'N' Heal reflects the Avery Burton Foundation's broader mission to strengthen mental-health awareness and build communities of people equipped to recognize, respond and refer when someone may be experiencing a mental-health challenge.
Participation is free, but advance registration is required and space is limited. Registered participants will receive event information, including parking and preparation guidance, before the hike.
