GreenPoint Roofing Announces Recipient of 9th Annual Veterans Day Roof Replacement Donation
S For Story/10707715
Anthony Cortez, a U.S. Navy veteran who enlisted at 17, is selected for a complimentary impact-resistant roof replacement on Veterans Day after being nominated by a 2019 recipient.
LONGMONT, Colo. - s4story -- For the ninth consecutive year, GreenPoint Roofing is proud to honor a local veteran through its Annual Veterans Day Roof Replacement Donation, a tradition dedicated to recognizing those who have served our country and giving back to the community. This year's recipient is Anthony Cortez of Longmont, Colorado, a United States Navy veteran whose dedication and service began at just 17 years old.
Anthony enlisted in the United States Navy in 1977, beginning a military career that would take him across the Western Pacific and place him in positions of increasing responsibility and leadership. Following basic training in San Diego, California, he completed specialized training in propulsion systems and machining in Chicago, Illinois.
He was then assigned to the USS Duluth (LPD-6), an amphibious transport dock ship, where he participated in deployments throughout the Western Pacific, including the Philippines, Taiwan, and Japan. During his time aboard the Duluth, Anthony supported training operations and various Marine Corps companies, contributing to the Navy's mission of readiness and operational support.

Throughout his service, Anthony advanced through the enlisted ranks, ultimately leaving active naval service as an E-5 Work Center Supervisor. His responsibilities included overseeing engine maintenance, mechanical systems, and the ship's electrical systems. His progression into a supervisory role reflected the technical expertise, leadership, and dedication he brought to his fellow sailors and the Navy.
Following his active-duty service, Anthony continued working in ship maintenance and repair during dry-dock operations in Long Beach, California, contributing to the maintenance of stateside vessels through 1981. He eventually returned to Colorado, settling in Longmont, where he went on to pursue a career in the automotive industry.
Anthony's story is one of commitment, hard work, and a willingness to serve at a young age. Anthony was nominated for this year's donation by fellow Navy veteran Larry Rand, GreenPoint Roofing's 2019 Veterans Day roof replacement recipient. Having experienced the generosity of this program firsthand, Larry wanted to help another deserving veteran in his community. Anthony's roof was in poor condition, and he was facing the possibility of having his homeowners insurance canceled due to its condition. Recognizing the need and wanting to pay forward the kindness he once received, Larry reached out to GreenPoint Roofing to nominate Anthony. His nomination is a meaningful reminder that the impact of giving back doesn't end with one person; it has the ability to come full circle.

GreenPoint Roofing is honored to recognize his contributions and provide him with a new Malarkey Windsor Class 4 Impact Resistant roofing system as a small token of appreciation for his service and sacrifice.
"Every year, this donation gives us an opportunity to say thank you to someone who has given so much to our country. Nine years later, it remains one of the most meaningful traditions at GreenPoint Roofing. We are incredibly grateful for Anthony's service and proud to be able to give something back to him," said Scott Brasington, owner of GreenPoint Roofing.
Since beginning this tradition, GreenPoint Roofing has made it a priority to complete each donated roof on Veterans Day itself, making November 11 a special day not only for the recipient but also for the GreenPoint team and everyone involved in making the donation possible.
