The next profile is about the author's mother. She had been a teacher at an elementary school when she became pregnant and had to leave her teaching role. She became the full time homemaker and caregiver to her family, which included 10 children. Through the years, she became grandmother to 49, and great grandmother to 8, while continuing to adventure. She climbed El Capitan in Yosemite National Park, backpacked a 12-mile-long canyon, and hiked the Na Pali coast on the island of Kawai.
