ASHEVILLE, N.C. - s4story -- Some artists name songs after relationships, cities or people.

KayeDinero named one after a video game emulator.

Her new instrumental "RetroArch," released Sept. 23, is an ode to the open-source platform familiar to gamers who use modern hardware to revisit classic gaming eras.

For KayeDinero, that combination of old memories and new technology makes perfect sense.

"I love the idea that technology can move forward without forcing us to throw everything behind us away," KayeDinero said. "RetroArch lets you revisit a feeling."

From Python to Pixels

KayeDinero's connection to technology goes far beyond gaming.

Her work spans software development, Python, financial analytics, TradingView tools, music production and aerial cinematography.

That technical side has increasingly shown up in her music through titles including "Pipeline Developer," "Human Error" and "Kulture Metrics."

Now comes "RetroArch."

"Gaming has always been about more than graphics," she said. "It's the sound, the levels, the characters, the memories, even the frustration. You can hear two seconds of something from an old game and suddenly you're somewhere else."

Why Retro Still Hits

Retro games continue to survive because nostalgia is powerful.

Players still return to classic consoles, arcade titles and older game libraries even while gaming technology keeps moving forward.

KayeDinero says that same tension between old and new is part of what attracts her to instrumental music.

"I like creating something modern that still triggers an older feeling," she said. "That is what nostalgia does."

The song also reflects her broader shift toward instrumental production.

Rather than telling listeners exactly what to feel through lyrics, KayeDinero increasingly lets melody, percussion and texture create the story.
