Campaign answers record youth isolation with printable cards that turn kindness into a daily classroom practice

BOSTON - s4story -- Writer Pemba Umoja today launched Kindness 2027, a free classroom resource for National Bullying Prevention Month: ten printable kindness cards and a classroom poster, available in thirteen languages — no signup, no cost, free to share with attribution.

Kindness 2027 responds to a crisis of disconnection. With social isolation at record levels — fueling so many of the issues facing young people and the wider world — the campaign aims to build a sense of belonging, comfort, and connection, and a deeper appreciation for our fellow human beings. Its goal is to spread ripples of kindness that help overcome bullying, build stronger relationships, and uplift students with a sense of hope.

According to the CDC's 2023 Youth Risk Behavior Survey, nearly one in five American high school students — 19.2% — report being bullied on school property, with rates in the hardest-hit states exceeding one in four.

The cards carry short sayings about kindness and belonging — "We are each other's greatest wealth," "It doesn't cost to be nice, but it's very costly to be mean," "A greeting is the human form of a sunrise" — drawn from Umoja's aphorisms, which he publishes freely online in thirteen languages. Each set is a print-ready PDF: one poster page plus four cut-sheet pages of cards.

To mark October, Kindness 2027 invites classrooms to take the 10 Days of Kindness Challenge: one card a day for ten school days — read it together, talk about it for two minutes, then live it for the rest of the day.

"In the age of technology, we need to hold on to and celebrate our humanity," said Umoja. "A poster or a card can help spread seeds — especially when they are discussed and reflected upon. Cards visible in classrooms, reflected upon together, brought home to families: these are wonderful ways to sow seeds of togetherness and positivity."

The resource is available now at https://pembaumoja.com/kindness-2027 (https://l.meta.ai/?u=https%3A%2F%2Fpembaumoja.com%2Fkindness-2027&h=AUByXG09m2jamO21lAafqMbcR9jHyr5u17SXrDkg5OYmwkPwMGoc_U9mDrjoX0FZhZ9c91bTclBkkOcRGegnYTeMmETCTlTA__3j09a6vT3uAomsq9lDhQ) in Arabic, Bengali, German, English, Spanish, French, Hindi, Indonesian, Japanese, Portuguese, Russian, Swahili, and Chinese. For America's multilingual classrooms, that means every student can read the same words of kindness in the language they understand best.
