Liquid Breathwork Named NCBTMB Approved Provider for Breathwork CE for Massage Therapists
S For Story/10705869
A 24 CE hour live course in the Phoenix area teaches licensed massage therapists to bring conscious breathing into client sessions.
PHOENIX - s4story -- Liquid Breathwork is now an NCBTMB Approved Provider, offering Breathwork continuing education for massage therapists through a 24-hour live course in the Phoenix area. The National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork (NCBTMB) approved the provider on October 1, 2026 (Approved Provider #1003401).
The course, Liquid Breathwork: Breathwork Integration for Massage Therapists, runs over one three-day weekend and is approved for 24 CE hours. It teaches licensed massage therapists how to bring conscious breathing into client sessions inside their existing scope of practice.
The course is taught by Ryan McBurney and Shelby Von Oepen, RN, who co-founded Liquid Breathwork and teach every part of it together. The curriculum comes from eight years of Breathwork and breathing courses, study and practice since 2018, and Von Oepen's 14 years as a Registered Nurse add a layer of clinical safety. Along with breathing techniques, verbal cueing and session structure, therapists learn three consent-based touch techniques: Grounding Hand, Gentle Rocking and Hand on Belly.

"Breathwork gives massage therapists a new way to support their clients, on the table and beyond the one-on-one session. One of our students, Anya, owns a Thai massage studio in San Francisco and now combines Breathwork with her Thai massage. She describes the result as an out-of-this-world experience for her clients," said Ryan McBurney, co-founder of Liquid Breathwork.
"I worked directly with NCBTMB to make sure our curriculum aligned with their standards. Lymphatic massage therapists, Thai massage therapists, bodyworkers and traditional massage therapists have all gone through our training, and they love making Breathwork part of what they offer," said Shelby Von Oepen, RN, co-founder of Liquid Breathwork.
Day three is a supervised peer practicum with live instructor feedback and a written assessment. Participants who complete the full course receive a Certificate of Completion documenting 24 CE hours. Massage therapists are responsible for confirming their own state board's continuing education and scope of practice rules.
