S For Story/10705195
LOS ANGELES - s4story -- Scientology Media Productions celebrated the world premiere of its new Signature Performances documentary, Mark Isham: The Voice Within, on Tuesday, September 29, at its historic Hollywood studio, a fixture of the entertainment industry for more than a century. The documentary premieres on Scientology Network on October 11 at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
Guests from the worlds of music, film and entertainment arrived on the red carpet before joining a packed house for an evening centered on the Grammy and Emmy-winning composer's genre-defying career and latest creative endeavor. The film follows Isham's ambitious effort to fuse free-form jazz with electronica in At the Carousel Club, his first new album in 15 years. It also traces his journey, beginning with his roots in jazz and pioneering work in New Age and electronic music and continuing through his acclaimed career composing for film and television.
The screening ended with the audience on its feet in a standing ovation. Isham then joined legendary songwriter Diane Warren onstage for a lively conversation about music, their different approaches to the creative process and the work behind it. Warren distilled her own approach to a simple principle:

"I show up. I do the work. I go to work every day without fail."
Isham picked up on the theme, describing the long hours he spends experimenting in the studio and the process behind the electronic elements of At the Carousel Club:
"Composing is sort of like sculpting," he said. "You're just sort of letting the machines be the machines and take a little bit out here and add a little bit there. And the next thing you know, it's actually kind of cool."
The evening culminated in a special live performance by Isham, joined by virtuoso drummer Vinnie Colaiuta, bassist Kaveh Rastegar, vocalist Suzanne Waters and violinist Leah Zeger. The ensemble performed a selection of songs from At the Carousel Club, including "At the Carousel Club," "City Lore" and "Number Theory." Synchronized video projections by Isham's son Jake Isham added a cinematic dimension to the live performance.
