SHI Introduces the RP-222B3S, Its Highest-Capacity 4K Pulse Tube Cryocooler
S For Story/10701864
High-capacity 4K cooling with low vibration, global power compatibility and simplified integration for demanding cryogenic applications.
ALLENTOWN, Pa. - s4story -- SHI Advanced Technologies (formerly the SHI Cryogenics Group) has expanded its portfolio of low-vibration cryogenic solutions with the introduction of the RP-222B3S 4K Pulse Tube Cryocooler, the company's highest-capacity pulse tube cryocooler to date. Building on SHI's proven pulse tube technology, the RP-222B3S delivers up to 2.0 W of cooling power at 4.2 K and up to 55 W of first-stage cooling at 45 K, giving researchers, OEMs and system integrators enhanced performance for demanding low-temperature applications.
The RP-222B3S is designed for dilution refrigeration systems, quantum technologies, superconducting applications and other advanced cryogenic environments where stable, low-vibration cooling is essential. The system combines increased cooling capacity with high efficiency, long-term reliability and a separated valve unit configuration that minimizes vibration. It is powered by SHI's proven F-100 helium compressor platform, providing dependable operation for precision applications.

The RP-222B3S introduces a new double-inlet design that simplifies the connection between the cold head and valve unit while improving overall thermodynamic efficiency. The system also features a newly designed drive unit, which incorporates inverter control technology to maintain optimal valve timing independent of local power frequency, ensuring consistent performance on both 50 Hz and 60 Hz power systems worldwide.
With a rated minimum temperature below 2.8 K, an industry-compatible 2.0 W cold head interface and a 20,000-hour maintenance interval, the RP-222B3S is designed for straightforward integration into new and existing cryogenic systems. The simplified configuration and higher cooling capacity enable customers to address larger thermal loads while reducing integration complexity.
The complete system includes the pulse tube cryocooler, F-100 helium compressor with drive unit, buffer tanks, gas lines and power cables. SHI Advanced Technologies has the largest installed base of cryocoolers worldwide and supports its customers with a global service and support network of fourteen offices and numerous representatives.
