As Fiber Arrives in Tucson, IT Wes Helps Households Make Sense of Their Internet Choices
S For Story/10705753
The free, independent guide explains what changed in 2026 and what to ask before switching internet providers.
TUCSON, Ariz. - s4story -- TUCSON, Arizona. IT Wes LLC has published a free, independent guide for Tucson households and small offices sorting through a fast-changing list of internet providers. It arrives as new fiber networks begin construction across the city.
Written by founder Wesley Schaeppi, a Tucson native, the guide traces how much changed in a single year. For a long time, the company serving a Tucson home depended largely on which side of River Road it sat on, with Xfinity to the north and Cox to the south.
"It seemed as though that monopoly would continue, and our hands would be forced to just go with whoever was available," said Schaeppi.
The guide walks through what changed in 2026. The City of Tucson licensed IdeaTek and Wyyerd Fiber to build fiber to homes and businesses under its Fiber-to-the-Premises program, Cox customers moved to Spectrum after Charter completed its acquisition, and AT&T took over Quantum Fiber. It explains how cable, fiber, satellite, and 5G home internet differ, and why upload speed matters for video calls and security cameras.

"This increase in competition, and the much faster speeds that come with fiber, will prove to be a big win for Tucson," Schaeppi said. He described a recent customer who could move from 300 megabits per second on cable to a full gigabit on fiber for $40 a month, half of what they had been paying, though at a promotional price.
That caveat runs through the guide's advice on switching. It lists questions to ask first, including the price after a promotion ends, equipment fees, and data caps, and warns readers not to cancel an existing service until the new one is installed and working. It also flags provider email addresses, such as those ending in cox.net, as something to sort out before canceling.
IT Wes is not paid by any of the providers covered. "My only goal is getting you the best connection your address can get," Schaeppi said.
The guide is free, requires no signup, and is available at https://itwes.com/resources/tucson-internet-providers/
