More on S For Story
Known throughout the jazz and gospel community as the contemporary embodiment of the historic "Texas Tenor" sound, Jason Davis Sr. brings warmth, gritty blues authenticity, and spiritual depth to every arrangement.
Across Texas Tea & The Quick Draws, Davis demonstrates extraordinary multi-instrumental prowess, performing on tenor saxophone, bass guitar, piano, organ, keyboards, and percussion. Anchored by the thunderous groove of acclaimed drummer Danielle "Pocket" Brown, the project unites an elite collective of independent vocalists and spoken-word visionaries, including Verb Kulture, Ashley Wilkerson, Jesseca "Afrobetty" Williams, and Alejandro Perez Jr.
The project's flagship single, "Every Small Town", stands as an evocative, soul-stirring centerpiece—paying acoustic homage to working families, historic grassroots neighborhoods, and the resilience woven into hometown communities across the South.
Expanding the narrative arc further, Davis's brand-new release, Texas Tea: Back Home, serves as an intimate homecoming exploration. Built upon gentle blues phrasing, classic Southern gospel harmonies, and reflective jazz melodies, Back Home honors ancestry, local Dallas heritage, and personal faith.
"This music is rooted in legacy, spiritual conviction, and the genuine life stories of our communities," said Jason Davis Sr. "To receive the Prayze Factor Award as Gospel Jazz Artist of the Year and have our work on 'Texas Tea & The Quick Draws', 'Every Small Town', and 'The Cultural Choir Mixtape' recognized for GRAMMY® consideration is truly humbling. We set out to create art that sounds like the honest heart of the South—uncompromised, spiritual, and deeply rooted."
