Grid Assess launches for iOS and Android to modernise field trial data capture

Schimera's new mobile app helps agronomists, researchers and field technicians collect plot observations, photos, notes and location data in one structured workflow.
BRISBANE, Australia - s4story -- Schimera Pty Ltd today announced the launch of Grid Assess, a new field trial assessment app for iPhone, iPad and Android devices. Built for agronomists, researchers and field technicians, Grid Assess replaces paper forms and spreadsheets with a purpose-built mobile workflow for setting up trials, capturing plot data and exporting results from the field.
Grid Assess is designed for the realities of fieldwork, where data entry must be efficient, easy to review and reliable once the assessment is complete. Users can set up a trial with treatments, replications, targets and subsamples, then walk the field entering numeric observations plot by plot. The app supports both keypad entry and voice-based capture, helping users keep moving without constantly switching between the crop and the screen.

Each assessment can include photos, notes, treatment-used adjustments, GPS location data and timed assessment sessions. Completed assessments can be locked to prevent accidental edits, duplicated for repeat work, saved as templates for future trials and organised with labels for clients, projects or trial groups.
"Field assessment work often starts clean and becomes messy very quickly, notes in one place, photos somewhere else, location details missing and a spreadsheet waiting back at the office," said Sean Ashton, founder of Schimera. "Grid Assess is built to keep that information together from the moment it is captured, so the hand over from field observation to report is much simpler."
When results are ready to share, Grid Assess can generate exports including Excel spreadsheets, CSV files, PDF summaries and treatment means reports. The app also includes a heat map view for spotting plot patterns, assessment mapping for location review and local image archive transfer for moving a full set of plot photos to a laptop or desktop over the user's local WiFi network.
