Three narrators emphasize the strength behind community connection and belief in William West's "The Ascension of Mary"
TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. - s4story -- Following his 2018 literary debut, Evolution of a Young Man in Love, author William West releases his second novel, The Ascension of Mary (TouchPoint Press, November 22, 2021). The Ascension of Mary tells the story of Mary Hester, a 14-year-old violin prodigy adamant on her power to heal others. Readers follow Mary's captivating tale through a rotating point-of-view, shifting between Mary's diary journals, conversations between Mary and her mother Rachel, and the narration of next-door neighbor Jonah Culpepper.
Drawing inspiration from authors including William Faulkner and Toni Morrison, West's dive into Mary Hester's world through multiple narrators holistically and cohesively represents how each character fits into the dynamic neighborhood community at the heart of The Ascension of Mary. In doing so, West works to present humble outlooks on the importance of an individual's sense of belonging, with the ultimate hope that each reader can, "experience the feeling of unity that is possible but rarely visible in today's society."
