(New Date) Activist Isha Clarke Teaches Youth to Fight for Environmental Justice
S For Story/10467461
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - s4story -- In honor of Black History Month, Unreasonable Kids College is proud to announce intersectional youth activist Isha Clarke as the keynote speaker in a virtual seminar. The virtual session is on February 26, 2021, at 6 p.m. EST. To register, participants can visit unreasonablekidscollege.org.
Isha Clarke believes it is essential to pair environmental activism with environmental justice to create a just and equitable world while maintaining a livable climate. She first made headlines asking California Senator Dianne Feinstein to support a Green New Deal.
Clarke states, "Climate and environmental justice is about collective liberation. If we do not fight to dismantle the systems of white supremacy, colonialism, and economic exploitation that poison our communities and are responsible for creating climate change, none of us will survive. Black and brown, Indigenous, and working-class communities have and will continue to bear the brunt of the climate crisis even though we are the least responsible for creating it. We need to and will be the loudest in this fight for survival."

Clarke is a high school student born, raised, and educated in Oakland, CA, with a passion for intersectional activism. She knows that threats to the environment disproportionately affect people of color, low-income folks, and young people.
Ateba Whitaker, founder, and CEO of Unreasonable Kids College expresses her gratitude to Isha Clarke for participating in the Kid- Advocates 'Rise' Speakers Series. Mrs. Whitaker states, "when I look at our world through a neutral lens, I see injustice and a need for Kids trained to lead with an understanding that all human beings are created equal and deserve human dignity." She continues, "the idea for my kids to meet Ms. Clarke in an up-close and personal virtual session to discuss intersectional activism helps them to understand better that access to a healthy environment should not be limited to one class nor race," says Mrs. Whitaker and "if it is- then that is something to fight for."
